Israeli mom who stalled Hamas captors with cookies shares life-saving recipe - New York Post

The Israeli mom who famously used her baking skills to stall her Hamas kidnappers on Oct. 7 is now sharing the cookie recipe that saved her family’s life.

“I had them wrapped around my little finger, those nasty monsters,” Rachel Edri says in an Instagram video as she baked.

Edri, who successfully distracted five Hamas gunmen until an Israeli SWAT team rescued her and her husband, shared the recipe for the cookies she made for the terrorists.

“Friends, for two and a half months, you’ve been driving me crazy for the recipe for the cookies I baked for the monsters, so I’m saying to you once and for all, I made them date cookies, chocolate chip cookies, Moroccan machine cookies,” she said, according to a translation from the Jerusalem Post.

Recreating the chocolate chip version that won the gunmen over, Edri listed the ingredients as a packet of baking powder, half a cup of brown sugar, a tablespoon of white sugar, two cups of flour, two eggs, and 150 grams of softened butter, plus the chocolate addition.

Edri went on to mix the ingredients in a bowl and cut out small circles of dough. After flattening them, she placed them in an oven preheated at 170 degrees Celsius, or 338 Fahrenheit.

Edri is diabetic and can’t eat her life-saving confectionaries, but that only left more for the Hamas terrorists who swarmed around her cookies.

She was with her husband, David, in Ofakim when the terrorists broke into their house during the Oct. 7 attack.

The quick-witted mother said she realized the gunmen were “hungry,” so she offered to cook for the terrorists, baking them the cookies and treating them to coffee and Coke Zero, she revealed during an interview with ABC News.

Looking to buy time, she also joked around with the terrorists and even asked for some Arabic lessons, she said.

Fortunately, her son Evi, an Israeli police officer, arrived quickly and had a standoff with the Hamas members, one of whom held Edri by the throat with a grenade in hand.

Eventually, a SWAT team arrived and took out the terrorists, with David jumping over his wife to protect her during the ensuing gunfire.

Although their home was covered in blood, the couple lived to tell their story and became famous for the creative way in which they survived.
