While I am sad to see summer fade away, I already look back at August with an afterglow from all the incredible eats it delivered. As a collective, our favorites (from both you, our readers, and us editors!) were creamy, crispy, and all sorts of carby. Does icebox cake, carbonara made with a whole tin of anchovies, crunchy-punchy French onion dip chicken thighs, or Boston cream pie ring a bell? Probably, because it seemed like everyone was making them.

Let’s dive into the 10 most popular recipes that we blissfully ate as we enjoyed the last whispers of summer.

Brown Sugar Apple Pan Dowdy

Forget all the fussy pie crimping and latticing. These brown sugar-sweetened apples are baked under a pastry crust that gets broken into syrup-coated pieces.

20+ Anti-Inflammatory Lunch Recipes for Lower Cholesterol - EatingWell

These anti-inflammatory lunch recipes make lowering your cholesterol a delicious endeavor. They're packed with ingredients like dark leafy greens, legumes and whole grains to combat pesky symptoms of chronic inflammation like digestive issues, joint pain and mental fog. Plus, each meal is low in saturated fats and has at least 6 grams of fiber per serving, which not only helps you feel full but also helps boost "good cholesterol." Recipes like our Black Bean Fajita Skillet and Spicy White Bean & Spinach Salad are flavorful and nutritious lunches you can prepare in 15 minutes or less.

Black Bean Fajita Skillet

You can often find presliced and ready-to-cook fresh vegetables in your grocer's produce section. Use these to your advantage to cut down on dinnertime prep. Here, presliced fajita vegetables are sautéed with canned black beans and Southwest seasoning for a quick and easy Tex Mex-inspired meal. Plus, this recipe requires just three ingredients, not including basics like salt, pepper and oil. You can easily take your bowl up a notch by adding some cheese, sour cream or another tasty topping.

This Fiber-Packed White Bean & Spinach Salad Is Ready in Just 10 Minutes

Photographer: Jen Causey, Food Stylist: Melissa Gray, Prop Stylist: Shell Royster

In this light and refreshing salad, we season white beans with ras el hanout, a Moroccan spice blend which features cinnamon, cumin, turmeric, ginger, cardamom and ground black and red pepper. If you prefer a creamier texture, gently mash some of the beans as you stir everything together. The bean salad is served on a bed of lightly dressed spinach that pairs well with the beans, but also grilled chicken or steak kebabs on another night.

Cabbage, Tofu & Edamame Salad

Craving crunch? Bite into this salad loaded with crisp red cabbage, edamame, bamboo shoots, and chow mein noodles. This salad is slightly sweetened with baked tofu, mandarin oranges and sesame vinaigrette.

Berry-Kefir Smoothie

Ana Cadena

Get a probiotic boost at breakfast when you add kefir to your smoothie. Feel free to use any berries and nut butter you have on hand in this healthy smoothie recipe.

Spicy Ramen Cup of Noodles

Make your own cup of instant soup at home with this vegetarian ramen recipe. Pack several jars at once to take to work for easy lunches throughout the week.

Really Green Smoothie

The combination of kale and avocado makes this healthy smoothie recipe extra green. Chia seeds lend a heart-healthy punch of fiber and omega-3 fatty acids.

Cranberry-Walnut Chickpea Salad

Photographer: Rachel Marek, Food stylist: Lauren McAnelly

We swap chickpeas in for chicken to create a satisfying vegetarian main that's perfect for lunch. Cranberries add a sweet-tart flavor, while toasted walnuts and celery provide crunch. Serve over leafy greens or use as a sandwich filling.

Butternut Squash Soup with Avocado & Chickpeas

Jazz up a can of soup by adding protein with chickpeas and flavor with curry powder. Stir in a little Greek yogurt to make it creamy.

Strawberry-Chocolate Smoothie

This creamy, rich strawberry-chocolate smoothie will satisfy any chocolate cravings. It's so decadent you might want it as a dessert, too.

Veggie Sandwich

There's no chance of getting the afternoon munchies when you fuel up with this vegan veggie sandwich filled with fiber and healthy fats, plus fruit on the side. It'll keep you energized until dinner. Feel free to swap in your other favorite sandwich vegetables, sprouts or greens.

Teriyaki Tofu Rice Bowls

With a handful of shortcut ingredients from your local specialty grocery store, you can prepare an entire week's worth of high-fiber meals in about 15 minutes. Look for precooked wild rice packets to cut down on prep time. Plus, wild rice is a good source of fiber. Topping these bowls with prebaked tofu also cuts down on the time it takes to make this quick meal-prep lunch.

Chopped Salad with Sriracha Tofu & Peanut Dressing

Prep four days' worth of high-protein vegan lunches using just four easy ingredients from your local specialty grocery store, including a veggie-heavy salad mix as a base. Because this salad mix is hearty, you can dress these bowls up to 24 hours before serving to allow the flavors in this healthy chopped salad to marry. If you can't find a hearty mix, go with broccoli slaw or shredded Brussels sprouts.

Quick Shrimp Puttanesca

Because refrigerated fresh pasta cooks much faster than dried pasta, this Italian-inspired pasta dish will be on the table lickety-split! Puttanesca, traditionally made with tomatoes, olives, capers, anchovies and garlic, gets shrimp for extra protein and artichoke hearts to boost the vegetable servings (and the fiber!). If you can't find frozen artichoke hearts, sub in drained canned artichoke hearts.

Strawberry & Tuna Spinach Salad

Enjoy sweet, juicy strawberries paired with nutrient-dense mushrooms and tangy tuna salad. This is the ultimate salad to keep you feeling full. It boasts 20 grams of protein and 10.5 grams of fiber -- both nutrients known to satiate hunger.

Spinach-Avocado Smoothie

This healthy green smoothie gets super creamy from the frozen banana and avocado. Make ahead (up to 1 day) and store it in the fridge until you need a veggie boost.

Quinoa Chickpea Salad with Roasted Red Pepper Hummus Dressing

This hearty vegan salad is loaded with plant-based power ingredients: chickpeas, quinoa and hummus. We love the crunch of the sunflower seeds and the unexpected flavor of roasted peppers.

BBQ Chicken Bowls

These BBQ chicken bowls are perfect for weeknight dinners. They come together in just 15 minutes and are chock-full of the classic barbecue flavors you love, including saucy beans, coleslaw and potatoes.

Green Goddess Salad with Chickpeas

In this cucumber, tomato, Swiss cheese and chickpea salad recipe, a healthy green goddess dressing is made from avocado, buttermilk and herbs. The extra dressing is delicious served with grilled vegetables.

Kale & Spinach Smoothie

Casey Barber

When you really need to eat your greens, go for this smoothie that packs both kale and spinach into every sip. Kiwi and dates add natural sweetness, and almond butter and almond milk keep you full.

Berry-Banana Smoothie Bowls

Photographer: Antonis Achilleos, Prop Stylist: Shell Royster, Food Stylist: Ruth Blackburn

Blueberries and blackberries form the base of this colorful smoothie bowl. These berries are loaded with anthocyanins and antioxidants, which can help reduce inflammation and help reduce the risk of a number of chronic diseases. We top this bowl with fresh fruit, coconut and almonds, but you can use any toppings you prefer.

Zucchini Noodle Bowls with Chicken Sausage & Pesto

Cut down on prep time for this meal-prep zoodle recipe by using premade zucchini noodles from the produce section. Canned beans and precooked chicken sausage heat in about 5 minutes and add protein, while store-bought refrigerated pesto serves as a fast and flavorful topping.

The Best Packable Lunch Recipes, According to Eater Staff - Eater

Given that most of us don’t have unlimited fast-casual grain bowl budgets, packed lunch is a simple fact of life, especially in this return-to-office era. There’s the cold-cuts sandwich crowd and the leftover dinner acolytes, but there are also those of us who’ve calibrated the perfect, not-too-difficult lunch dishes. These are recipes that excel after a day or two in the fridge and that don’t require competing for the office microwave. They make going out to lunch an every-so-often treat, and our wallets are thankful. And almost any of them will look great in this TAKENAKA x Eater bento box collaboration.

Smashed Chickpea Salad

Aliza Abarbanel, Bon Appétit

Plenty of recipes promise to be weeknight-friendly or mind-numbingly easy — but often, they don’t follow through. So when I started replicating Aliza Abarbanel’s take on chickpea salad, I was ready for it to be underwhelming and over-involved, not because of the source but because I’ve been burned too many times. Lucky for me and you, this chickpea salad sticks to its word: quick, bright, and encouragingly briny, the method results in an easily adaptable, packable lunch. Rinsing canned chickpeas and mashing them with a wooden spoon takes less time than deciding what to make. Sure, a potato masher might speed things up, but any tool with a flat surface to press the chickpeas against the side of a bowl will do. A scoop of any creamy ingredient with olive oil yields a reliably silken texture. And to keep the whole situation feeling new with each remake, I can toss in a dash of vinegar, lemon or lime zest, Tajín, hell, even furikake and sesame oil! — Jesse Sparks, Senior Editor at Eater.com

Kimchi Tuna Salad

Ali Slagle, the New York Times

Even as a proud morning person, I don’t want to cook something complicated on my way out the door. I often fall back on everlasting pantry staples like tuna and kimchi that offer immediate flavor (and hold that flavor after resting in the fridge, if necessary). You don’t need a recipe for kimchi tuna salad (like a stripped-down chamchi kimchi jjigae), but Ali Slagle offers a helpful starting place for throwing one together. The titular duo come with their own dressings, but you can add fatty heft with some Kewpie mayo, sesame oil, tahini, or nutty sauce. Stir in some crunchy vegetables or go wild with seasonings (fish sauce, chili oil, sesame seeds). Or not. Throw it on some rice or bread. Or not. Don’t overthink it. Just get out the door. — Nicholas Mancall-Bitel, Editor

Meal Prep Noodle Soup Jars

BudgetBytes.com

As a whole, the convention of “meal prep” as we know it is not for me. However, I’ll admit: That scene is really onto something with meal prep noodle soup. I’m sure you’ve seen it by now, but it’s basically DIY Cup Noodles: You par-cook ramen noodles and layer them with seasonings and vegetables in a mason jar, which you finish off by filling with boiling water. Vegetables that cook quickly, or which you enjoy raw, are a good place to start, but leftovers like roasted carrots, sauteed mushrooms, and cooked greens get a nice new life in the soup jar as well. I also like adding tofu: straight from the package, lightly seared, or any of the fun options available at a well-stocked Asian grocery store like pre-broiled tofu or tofu puffs. Screw a lid on top and you’ll be ready to eat soup anywhere there’s hot water. Though the same can be said for store-bought ramen, this gives me more control over the flavor as well as the amount of vegetables and sodium. These soup jars are especially nice on cold or rainy days in the office when even walking to get a salad seems unimaginable. — Bettina Makalintal, Senior Reporter at Eater.com

Egg Salad

Allrecipes.com

For me, summer is the season of the bike picnic. Bike picnic food can be just about anything, but my Platonic ideal fits comfortably into a backpack, doesn’t require a full set of utensils to consume, and won’t grow soggy over the course of an hour or so. An egg salad sandwich can fulfill all of these requirements if it’s constructed from a length of baguette that has been sliced so that one side is left intact, which turns the baguette into a convenient carrying case. There are something like 100,000 egg salad recipes available to the average home cook, 99.9 percent of which are variations on the egg-mayo-mustard triumvirate. For this reason I don’t use an actual recipe, although the one linked above is very similar. Instead, I follow this basic ratio for egg salad for two: four eggs to a big spoonful of Dijon mustard to approximately ¼ cup of Vegenaise to varying amounts of seasonings and additives like scallions and/or capers and/or chopped parsley. Once it’s combined, I hollow out the top half of the baguette, which helps to ensure that the salad won’t splooge everywhere once the sandwich is closed, then spread a thin layer of mustard on the bottom half, line it with a few leaves of lettuce, plop on big spoonfuls of the salad, and voila. Wrapped in a tight layer of foil it is compact and impervious to jostling, a perfect vessel for both egg salad and uncomplicated pleasure. — Rebecca Flint Marx, Editor of Eater at Home

A delicious drink recipe made with just two ingredients - it is actually a soda version of the popular iced tea. Social media users are popularly referring to it as the 'Lipton+Sprite' drink. This viral drink hack was originally shared on Instagram reels by blogger Jordan Howlett. In a short span of time, it raked in over 10 million views and 794k likes. In the video, he showed how a simple bottle of Sprite or any soda could be transformed into a unique drink by just adding two tea bags to it.

Here Is How To Make The Viral Drink With Tea Bags And Sprite:

  1. Open the bottle of Sprite and empty it a bit out to make some space for the tea bags.
  2. Roll up the tea bags and insert them into the bottle one by one.
  3. Let them steep for 15-20 minutes or till you see the drink turning brown.
  4. Pour the drink into a glass, add a slice of lemon and ice cubes and enjoy!

You can even add tea bags to a bottle of plain soda if you prefer it, or else make a cocktail out of it by adding your favourite spirit. The drink also works well with ginger ale, as one of the comments in the post suggested. The idea is to pair black tea with a bubbly beverage to perk up the taste and add a zing to the palate.

10+ 15-Minute One-Pan Side Dish Recipes - EatingWell

It's easy to make a tasty side dish with these one-pan recipes. In just 15 minutes, you can sauté, steam or stir-fry delicious veggies and legumes that will taste great with any meal. Recipes like our Sautéed Arugula and Cauliflower Stir-Fry are simple, quick and lovely alongside a flavorful main dish.

Quick & Easy Sautéed Broccolini

Photographer: Jen Causey, Food Stylist: Emily Nabors Hall, Prop Stylist: Josh Hoggle

Broccolini, with its long thin stems and small florets, is a cross between broccoli and gai lan or Chinese broccoli. This simple crisp-tender sautéed broccolini has zip from lemon and garlic and just a hint of heat from crushed red pepper. Serve alongside anything from roasted chicken to fish or steak.

Quick & Easy Green Beans

Jennifer Causey; Styling: Lindsey Lower

Here's a fast, efficient way to cook green beans (and other vegetables), eliminating the fuss of bringing a large pot of water to a boil or draining the veggies.

Easy Eggplant Stir-Fry

This eggplant stir-fry is easy to make. We call for long and tender Japanese eggplant, but regular eggplant will work well, too, cut into 1-inch pieces. Jalapeño peppers can vary from mild to very spicy. If you need to cut the heat, opt for small sweet peppers in their place.

Sautéed Arugula

Photographer / Fred Hardy, Food Stylist / Ruth Blackburn

Peppery sautéed arugula is dressed in a delicate buttery sauce with lemon, garlic and sherry vinegar. Pair this quick and easy side dish with roasted chicken or fish.

Balsamic-Parmesan Sautéed Spinach

Tender spinach with a hint of garlic, Parmesan cheese and sweet balsamic vinegar makes a quick and flavorful side dish. The sturdy leaves of mature spinach hold up best during cooking.

Sautéed Zucchini & Onions with Chive Butter

Switch up the chives for whatever's growing in your garden--basil or dill would also be delicious in the compound butter that tops this simple sautéed zucchini recipe.

Cauliflower Stir-Fry

Jennifer Causey

This easy cauliflower stir-fry has a great balance of textures and flavors with bright and colorful tender-crisp veggies. Try substituting broccoli for the cauliflower or snap peas for the snow peas for another variation on this quick dinner.

Simple Sautéed Spinach

Sautéed spinach (or any greens) with garlic and a squeeze of lemon (or vinegar) is a simple formula that lets spinach shine and will never go out of favor.

Zucchini & Mushroom Sauté

Serve this simple side dish with grilled turkey burgers. Other fresh herbs, like thyme or oregano, work well too.

Easy Steamed Zucchini

How long does zucchini take to cook? This foolproof way to cook zucchini is also the easiest and fastest. Just steam it on the stovetop for a few minutes and you have a healthy vegetable side dish to add to dinner.

Parmesan White Beans

Ted & Chelsea Cavanaugh

Stash mirepoix blend—a basic building-block combo of chopped carrots, celery and onion—in your freezer and save some serious prep time on this simple bean side dish.

Sautéed Scallions & Garlic (Mock Wild Ramps)

Joy Howard

You can use this easy mixture of sautéed scallions and garlic in place of wild ramps—which can be hard to find and pricy—in just about any dish. Add the mixture to omelets and sauces, stir-fry it with rice and the protein of your choice, serve it with steak, fish or chicken and chop it up and add it to compound butter. Read more about ramps.

Spinach and Garbanzo Beans

This is no ordinary wilted spinach recipe--it's dressed up with shallot, pine nuts, and garbanzo beans for a tasty side dish for meat or chicken.

Samsung Announces Global Launch of Samsung Food, an AI-Powered, Personalized Food and Recipe Service - Samsung Global Newsroom

Customized recipes, meal planning intelligence and smart home compatibility all combine in the new AI-powered service

Samsung Electronics today announced the launch of Samsung Food, a personalized, AI-powered food and recipe platform.

Releasing in eight languages1 in 104 countries around the world, Samsung Food will offer comprehensive food experiences through more than 160,000 available recipes, acting as a personalized assistant that helps users discover new dishes, create tailored meal plans and order ingredients online. The service will also help users control their cooking appliances, while giving step-by-step guided cooking and allowing users to share their favorite recipes on social media.

Building on the foundation of Samsung’s wide range of cooking appliances and food services, Samsung Food uses AI technology to go beyond existing capabilities and deliver a food platform that truly adapts to the needs and lifestyles of its users. To accomplish this, Samsung Food draws from the extensive database of Whisk, a smart food platform acquired by Samsung Next in 2019 that leverages advanced technology called Food AI, which suggests meals based on user preferences and food seasonality.

“The food we enjoy and the way we prepare it are central to our daily lives, and we all love to cook and eat together,” said Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President and Head of the Service Biz Group of the Digital Appliances Business at Samsung Electronics. “By connecting digital appliances and mobile devices across the Samsung ecosystem and assisting users from shopping list to dinner plate, Samsung Food is using advanced AI capabilities to deliver a highly personalized, all-in-one food experience that users can control straight from their palms.”

Food Your Way: Recipe Exploration and Personalization, AI-Enhanced Meal Planning, Kitchen Connectivity and Social Sharing

Samsung Food’s wide range of features support users every step of the way during the meal planning and cooking process, spanning four key areas: recipe discovery and personalization, tailored meal planning, connected cooking and social sharing functions.

For recipe discovery, Samsung Food lets users save recipes to their personal digital recipe box anytime and from anywhere. The app analyzes recipes, standardizes their format and organizes them to create shopping lists based on their ingredients. In addition to mobile devices, users can also access the Samsung Food service with their Bespoke Family Hub™ refrigerators.2 Opened from the Family Hub™ touchscreen, Samsung Food provides recipe recommendations based on a list of available food items managed by the user.3

Samsung Food also comes with a Personalize Recipe function, enabling the app’s Food AI to directly change a saved recipe to better reflect users’ dietary requirements. For example, users can convert a recipe into a vegan or vegetarian version or make other changes to create a recipe that is more nutritionally balanced or incorporates in-stock ingredients. Users will even be able to create fusion recipes, such as Korean versions of Italian dishes, and adjust cook time or skill level of recipes.

To create individualized daily meal plans for users, the app makes AI-created recommendations based on user data,4 dietary preferences and favorite cuisine types and lets users add them to their meal planner. Nutritional breakdowns of ingredients are available at any time, and users can add items to their Samsung Food shopping list then send it straight to a retailer’s e-commerce checkout.5

With connected cooking, seamless Samsung Food connectivity lets users set timers, preheat ovens6 and send recipes’ cook settings straight to appliances7 through step-by-step guided cooking modes, all from their portable devices. Starting with the Bespoke Oven, Samsung plans to connect numerous appliances including Bespoke induction ranges and Bespoke microwaves  to Samsung Food by the end of the year to expand convenience for users in the kitchen.

It’s easy for users to get social with Samsung Food by sharing their favorite dishes with the community, creating and publishing their own recipes and following their favorite food content creators.

From Samsung Health Incorporation to Vision AI: Upcoming Features for Samsung Food

Beyond Samsung Food capabilities available at launch, Samsung will continue adding new features and services to the app for an even more seamless and comprehensive personal food experience.

By the end of the year, Samsung plans to offer Samsung Health integration with Samsung Food so that users will be able to receive suggestions for diet management. The seamless syncing of information such as BMI, body composition and calorie consumption with Samsung Food will help users to hit health goals and maintain a balanced diet.

Planned for implementation in 2024, Vision AI technology will enable Samsung Food to recognize food items and meals photographed through the camera and provide details about them, including nutrition information. By analyzing food items, the app can recommend the best recipes to use them with, save these recipes to the user’s collection and add the required ingredients to a shopping list, all in a few taps.

As a part of Samsung’s ever-growing family of services, Samsung Food represents the next step in the comprehensive yet highly bespoke experience Samsung customers can enjoy in their own home. Samsung Food strives to further extend the ease that is possible with a smart, connected kitchen of Samsung home appliances and will continue to be updated with new features following its official launch.

To download Samsung Food on any smartphone platform, please visit https://get.samsungfood.com/download.

1 The app supports English (U.S.), English (U.K.), German, Spanish (Spain), Spanish (Mexico), French, Italian and Korean. Supporting languages can be added in few years.
2 All models of Bespoke Family Hub™ refrigerators support Samsung Food service with Wi-fi connection and Samsung account connection.
3 A Personalized recipe feature for Family Hub will arrive later this year via updates.
4 Your personal details, including your age, height, weight, gender and activity level, can be entered into Samsung Food.
5 As of now, the service is available in some countries/regions. The available retailers will vary depending on your country/region, which is automatically detected based on your IP address.
6 This function is only available for the Bespoke Oven connected to SmartThings. The function may not work in some ovens.
7 Connected cooking feature on Samsung Food is only available with Samsung kitchen appliances connected to SmartThings.
